Methodology
How Vaneform estimates website traffic
A report’s monthly visits are a stored whole-site estimate for one public domain. Vaneform keeps the provider response, the month, and a confidence label. The page leaves a month blank when that response has no usable visit count.
Whole-site monthly visits
The visit number comes from Similarweb’s public data API. Vaneform requests https://data.similarweb.com/api/v1/data for the domain and stores the JSON as monthly facts. Vaneform does the labeling and the report mapping. The visit model itself is the provider’s.
EstimatedMonthlyVisits supplies the monthly series. The latest month with a visit count above zero is the figure on the report. The chart keeps up to twelve stored months. A site-overview row is preferred. With only a Website Rankings row on file, the report uses that desktop and mobile web row. Both rows use worldwide market 999.
A saved site-overview month is written with confidence medium. The report prints the confidence stored on that month. The label is fixed when the fact is written. The page shows that label, and leaves an error range and an accuracy percentage off the page.
Fields from the same response
Month-over-month change is the gap between two adjacent stored months when the earlier month’s visits are above zero. With only one of those months on file, the report uses a provider-reported change that the fact marked exact.
- Direct stays Direct. SearchOrganic, or the older Search key, becomes Search. SearchPaid becomes Paid search. SocialOrganic and SocialPaid are added into Social; an older payload’s single Social key stays Social.
- Referrals, Mail, and Generative AI keep their own channels. DisplayAds, or the older Paid Referrals key, becomes Display ads. Affiliate is stored as Other. A share is kept when every part falls between 0 and 1, then shown as a percent rounded to two decimals.
- Country shares keep the first five rows from the response. Names come from ISO 3166-1 numeric codes. A code outside that list is labeled Other.
- Global rank, country rank, and category rank are stored when the response includes them. Bounce rate, pages per visit, and average visit duration come from the engagement block.
- The same JSON can include up to five public keywords, with the term, monthly searches, and estimated visits. That sample stays on the visit section. Ranking-keyword research is a separate save.
Search visibility
Ranking keywords, landing pages, competitors, and organic estimated visits come from a DataForSEO Labs ranked-keyword sample. The default saved market is United States / English. The sample covers the queried host. Subdomains stay out of that request. The saved sample holds at most 100 keywords. The report lists the first 25, ordered by estimated organic search visits. Page totals on the card are summed from that sample.
A sample with keywords is stored with confidence low. An empty provider response is stored with confidence unknown. A free domain lookup stores the Similarweb visit facts. The search sample is requested when the account has research access.
Whole-site visits stay on the Similarweb month. Estimated search visits stay in search visibility. Each section keeps its own month, source, and confidence.
Visits that stay outside this figure
A site’s own analytics stay on that site. App sessions and signed-in product usage stay in those products. Bot filtering stays with the provider. A month whose visit count is missing, zero, or unusable stays blank on the report.
How to read a figure
Read the month, the scope, and the confidence beside the number. Whole-site scope and search scope answer different questions. Compare domains on the same source and the same month. Direction comes from the stored monthly series.
Questions
- Where does a Vaneform monthly visit estimate come from?
- It is a stored month from Similarweb’s public data API. The number is that month’s estimated whole-site visits. Vaneform saves the response and prints the month and confidence next to it.
- What does confidence medium mean on a visit estimate?
- A saved site-overview visit month is written with confidence medium. The report shows that stored label. An error range and an accuracy percentage stay off the page.
- Where do estimated search visits appear?
- They appear in search visibility, from a DataForSEO Labs ranking-keyword sample. Whole-site visits stay on the Similarweb month. The two sections keep separate numbers.
- What does the report show when the provider returns no usable visit count?
- That month stays blank. Vaneform leaves the visit field empty and waits for a later response with a usable count.
- Which market and device does the visit estimate use?
- Both the site overview and the Website Rankings fallback use worldwide market 999. The rankings row is desktop and mobile web. The overview row keeps the device scope from Similarweb’s public JSON, and the report label describes those visits as desktop and mobile whole-site visits.
- How can a site owner correct or hide a report?
- Email [email protected] with the domain and the report URL. The message can ask for a correction to the published estimate, or for the public report to be removed. Monthly visits are a modelled whole-site estimate. The method, source, month and confidence are on this page.
